Elder of Small Groups
Ron’s primary elder role is to encourage and help expand our small group ministry. His desire is to see our church be a healthy community of believers that minister to each other and are a reflection of the Lord through ministry to the community around us. He spends time encouraging not only pastoral staff but also the small group leaders that are the real workers of that ministry. Ron also has a passion for encouraging our oversees workers and has been on several short term trips to serve and encourage those workers. Ron is one of the founding leaders of the Grace House of Prayer (GHOP) and serves on one of the worship teams as well as being involved in elder prayer times on Sunday night. Ron enjoys serving alongside both Bernie Van Roekel and Jerry Bates on the prayer team in Jerry’s Sunday morning class.
Ron was born in San Angelo, Texas. His family moved to Richardson, a suburb north of Dallas, when Ron was nine years old. He was blessed to grow up under the teaching and ministry of First Baptist Church in Dallas. Through First Baptist Ron was able to go on several international mission trips with the high school choir. Through these experiences Ron discovered his love for music, worship, and international ministry.
Ron’s original intention was to be a minister of music in a Baptist Church. He went to Hardin-Simmons University to study church music but was unsuccessful. He returned home to Dallas where several months later he met his wife Marsha while they both were involved in leadership in the singles ministry at FBC-Dallas. Marsha was a young RN at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas where she still works 30 years later. The Hamiltons were married in 1982. While working on their first home (a serious fixer-upper) Ron decided to go back to school to pursue a degree in Architecture. Ron and Marsha moved to Arlington so that Ron could attend The University of Texas at Arlington where he graduated with a B.S in Architecture in 1987. After several jobs in large and small architecture firms, God opened a door for Ron to start his own firm. For the last 16 years Ron has owned his own design firm specializing in Medical, Dental and Oral Surgery interior finish-out. The Hamilton’s only son Clark is studying to be a mission pilot and has two great passions: 1) worship and 2) airplanes.
The Hamiltons have been at Grace since 1998, with Ron becoming an elder in 2011. Ron has also served in lay leadership roles in other churches. Ron enjoys gardening, woodworking and remodeling. In 2001, Ron gutted the home they presently live in and remodeled it to accommodate bringing Marsha’s parents into their home to care for them until the Lord called them home.
