Mexico Ministry Update
By: Jonathan Scheffrahn, Pastor of Life Groups
When I came to Grace Community Church in my college years, one of the first people I met was Jose Iglesias. He invited me and other college students to go with him to Mexico to help the poor by giving them food and clothing, to pray for them, and to share the love of Jesus with them. That trip outside of the United States gave me a whole new perspective that I would never have had if I had decided to stay behind.
Fast forward more than 20 years, and we are again taking regular trips to help the people of Mexico. Over the summer, I was privileged to get to take a team to a village near Acuña, Mexico, where we went door to door praying for people and inviting them to an event at the church later that day. When they came, we gave them all clothes, popcorn, shaved ice snow cones, and showed an animated version of Pilgrim’s Progress to all the kids. After the movie, we fed the whole village dinner and then invited them to come to worship with us the next day. For my two girls, it was the first time they had ever experienced a short-term cross-cultural ministry trip and it impacted them both greatly.
We plan to continue taking trips to Mexico, and if you want to be a part of painting a church, building a swingset, praying for people, giving away food, or any of the other activities we do in Mexico, contact Jose@gracearlington.com to ask when the next trip will be. You won’t regret it.
